Steve Rattner: With MGM Purchase, Amazon Makes A Clear Statement
When you purchase the Disney App, Netflix App, Hulu App and now the HBO App, that “chord-cutting” method ads up. Add Amazon Prime in there and it’s even more expensive. It’s not $300.00 per month expensive but it’s not cheap either. Also, Verizon and Comcast Xfinity are raising their internet prices next year, charging you more for data to stream. Depending on which package you choose, you may be in the $150.00-200.00 mark per month when you combine the internet-only packages with all the streaming services you pay for.
If you live in an area where Comcast and Verizon don’t have a monopoly and you’re able to purchase from cheaper internet providers, then you are saving a decent amount of money. For the rest of us, in particular those that do not live alone or have children that have internet-enabled devices, you are spending a fair amount of money every month. Chord-cutting is convenient, not necessarily cheap.
Enjoy your choices and low prices while you can, the investment being made by these streaming services is just that, an investment. Resulting in higher cost and lower reliability in all facets, such as WIFI, computers and streaming services. Wait for it, wait for it Gotcha…Just sayin’
TV is just mindless entertainment for me, and for that purpose pro wrestling is more than sufficient to the task. Plus it’s free.
Streaming is a rip off.
You’ll pay $120 per yr on ONE site, then another $120 per yr for another service, then $120 per yr.
5 possible subscriptions to access everything to stay current and up to date with your shows, could cost per yr $600 for the top 5 streaming services. And you’ve not got anything tangible to show for that money except knowing how a favorite TV show ended or you’ve seen a certain movie. That’s it. NO DVD box, you don’t own it and have to pay to watch it again. Streaming is a con.
Consumers always benefit when we get less choice? Instead of getting cable I buy 3-4 streaming services per month? That’s ok. I don’t feel like switching from cable to a cable copy cat. It’s all the same.
Now Bezos owns all of Trumps Apprentice out takes 😀
Why try to prevent the consumers? Money? Part of the exit from cable was to not spend that money on stuff we dont want which is the beauty of how it operates now…
Funny story about the grand when he was 2 we watched cable tv at my home then. Commercial came on and he had a fit that I turned his show off. That was when I realized he had never watched cable before.
Strange (well no it isn’t) how Amazon had adverts wanting me to invest $250 before and after this YouTube video
Interesting chart. Left Netflix years ago.
My main steaming app is PHILO. Love it.
Hulu is the next. We have prime but I never watch it.
I wouldnt be on here if I needed cable,..it seems pointless now compared to streaming
The only way Amazon Prime – or any streaming service for that matter – can even BEGIN to compete with Netflix?
Better UI. Asides from Netflix, I’ve yet to see any other streaming platform with the kind of viewing quality and technically pleasing interface like they have.
2:30 He really showed his ignorance with how far he took that statistic out of context. I bet he doesn’t even know what years millennials were born
I think you guys could run a little bit better analysis I think it really would’ve been fundamental to point out Amazon prime is literally a part of your prime membership with Amazon. That means if you sign up for the fast shipping membership option with Amazon you automatically get the streaming service. That does not mean you use that streaming service. I have Amazon prime I don’t use it much. Is there because it’s free. In this interview it might have been relevant to actually look at the quarterly financial statements and I Donely track the number of subscribers to a particular streaming service but to dig much deeper and try and find out how many people actually use that service. That may be a number that the companies don’t report. I think that’s important then because Netflix and the other streaming services know that if they can get you in and if you feel that the cost of the streaming service is negligible on a monthly basis you will pay for that service and not even use it.
They left out Torrents, 110%. lol
Cool. Now we need an announcement of a new Stargate series coming to Amazon Prime.
I’m 70 and I got rid of cable in 2013. Just have Netflix now.
I am a retired old man with little spendable cash just to line the pocket of a rich person. Why don’t you all “get stuffed”?
Did you guys mean Gen Z doesn’t know what satellite and cable are? Millennials grew up with cable and satellite. We’re in our mid 30’s and up now. How about, I dunno… you stop giving us sh-t? You have NO idea what the generations are, do you? You have NO idea how old we are. You just use Millennials as slur or demeaning term and I’m pretty sick of it. You know we’re about to be your target audience when the Boomers die, right?? Right?? Gen X doesn’t care, so good luck reaching out to them – they’re perfectly fine with being born at the right time and having a stable economy out of college.
We are the only generation you’ve all left worse than yourselves. Thanks! 😀
the solution is to stop having shows that are weekly. it isn’t cable.
I finally convinced my husband to drop cable entirely. We’re still stuck with their internet but we haven’t had a land line in over a decade.
Whatever, I just want more Expanse.
Geez Michael, I’m years older than you and I cut out Cable TV in 2005. I got along fine with Netflix for years but cut loose from them last year. Now I just use Tubi, YouTube, Vudu, Hulu, Roku and What Have U. If they ain’t got it, I buy the Blu-Ray.
I continue to celebrate HULU (my Vice subscription) & my “Zon boycott”
F U Jeff Bezos….╭∩╮ʕ•ᴥ•ʔ╭∩╮
