The Washington Post’s David Ignatius joins Morning Joe to discuss his latest column on why he says President Biden shouldn’t run again in 2024.
The last incumbent Democratic president who didn’t run for reelection was Lyndon Johnson. The Democrats nominated Hubert Humphrey who went on to lose the 1968 election Richard Nixon. The rest is literally history.
With the alternative being Trump back in the White House, how anyone can know that history and suggest with a straight face that Biden shouldn’t run is beyond me.
Oh, and I think David didn’t really answer Claire’s question about Kamala Harris (sp).

David Ignatius crapped the nation’s bed with his anti-Biden, anti-Harris and anti-Pelosi screed. David Ignatius is James Comey 2.0. To my way of thinking, Ignatius’ Wa-Po piece last week felt anything but objective or fair. Ignatius is 73…not exactly a young gun. America voted Biden/Harris by a big margin. America did not vote for President Ignatius. Speaker Pelosi almost single-handedly saved the republic. Moreover, she had the courage to stand up to China for Taiwan. Grow a pair David….and clean the bed!!!

The DNC had better embrace RFK Jr. ASAP! He might not be the perfect candidate but at this point is the best choice to defeat trump. Biden will be crushed by trump in 2024. His mental decline will be even worse by then. He did his job admirably. Time to retire.

Claire McCaskill inadvertently summed up Kamala Harris perfectly when she asked “What has she done to deserve this?” The fact is that Harris’ presidential campaign collapsed before the Democratic Primaries even started in 2020. Her only accomplishment in winning votes was in California where the GOP is non-existent. She was selected by Biden for optics and to appease the base that got him the job in South Carolina. The 2024 campaign won’t be able to be run from the basement. It will be gruelling and will require a vote winner and the fact is that Biden is too old and Harris is very unpopular.

I luv Uncle Joe and appreciate him BOTH unseating 45 and leading so much success in so many directions, though I wish he were getting more credit for all he has done. I at least like and maybe even luv “Mamala” Harris (as her step-daughters lovingly know her), and am impressed with her. I do wish her voice were a little less scratchy at times and I wish Uncle Joe’s old man walk were a little less prominent. Personally I wouldn’t even mind if Uncle Joe got us past January 20th, 2025 and at some point stepped back to let Mamala take the reigns.
HOWEVER, I worry mightily that from now to November 2024 is a VERY LONG time and I hope Uncle Joe avoids falling like the free world depends upon him, because seemingly it may.
