I am Friends with actress Karolyn Grimes who played Jimmy Stuart’s daughter that he holds up by the Christmas tree at the end of the movie. Her famous line is “Daddy teacher says everyone a bell rings and angel gets its wings.” She’s a wonderful woman. In her mid 70’s now.

My favorite movie of all time. Frank Capra was also returning from the war. He wanted to make a grand statement about all the pain and desperation he had seen while ‘over there ‘ and give people hope for the future.
Jimmy Stewart was a great leader of his men by all accounts.
The scars that B-17 and B-24 bomber pilots brought home with them are heart breaking. Everything from the frostbite from flying at 20,000 feet, the oxygen deprivation from the high altitude in un pressurized fuselages, the terror of being shot at by German fighters and shrapnel from anti-aircraft fire shredding their bombers tearing bodies apart left those boys in a very sorry state. Only 25 percent of them had any hope of making it home. They were bright enough to figure out the statistics for themselves.

So many folks today have no clue what it’s like to sacrifice for their nation, or for their neighbors. People have become highly selfish. My Dad was part of that great generation. I sure miss him!
