Updating transportation is a HUGE job and Pete seems to understand it cannot be achieved in a 4 year term. He needs to be satisfied to lay down the foundations for all the work to he done over the next few decades. Great choice.

We could afford better infrastructure, better schools, cheaper health care, etc. IF we make the ULTRA rich pay taxes in proportion to their wealth. The American Oligarchs control the republican party. Way too close to fascism for me.
I just caught myself laughing incredulously a bit when Buttigieg talked about how America should be leading the world concerning infrastructure. Either he doesn’t know what he’s talking about, or he’ll be good solely for such nice and comforting, actually cynical, platitudes while – like his predecessors – presiding over a crumbling US falling further behind.
I mean, even I know how destructive the politics of the last, say, 40 years have been for the US regarding the neccessary budgets, legal frames, and the institutional structure needed to at least keep America from slipping even deeper into the second rate status it’s already finding itself in.
On the other hand, I don’t envy anybody Buttigieg’s new job. Maybe talking world leadership and superdooper innovation, starting a few expensive but worthless lighthouse projects, smiling while also looking determined for some photo shoots, naming safety, jobs and whatnot without having a handle to do anything substantial about these important issues, are the only things he’ll actually be able to do.
Well, at least the US is leading the world in Covid-19 deaths, that’s gotta count for something.

Good luck Mayor Pete! I’m an expat living in Europe and it’s about time the U.S. did something about their infrastructure. The roads where I live put the roads in America to shame not to mention the wonderful train network. Hope you can bring the U.S. into the 21st century.
New Secretary of Transportation is a great communicator. USA needs to rebuild our infrastructure.
It would be nice to hire people based on their ability to do the job not because they have a status.
