Apple CEO Criticizes Social Media’s Business Model | Morning Joe | MSNBC
And YouTube has become even worse.
And how about they actually pay taxes in all the countries they operate in too!
FACEBOOK WANTS TO BE THE NEW ‘FOX NEWS’….WHERE MORE THAN HALF OF WHAT THEY SHOW ARE LIES AND FALSEHOODS…..BREAK UP FACEBOOK , AND JOE HAS IT RIGHT…BREAK IT UP NOW !!
Look Joe, I know you’re old, but you can’t “break up” a social network, it’s the same as saying “let’s break up the internet”. A social network is only possible because nearly everyone is on it and can connect. How are you going to break it up, dummy ? No more than X million users per network ? What happens when I want to join a group of friends and they are on a saturated network ? Do I convince everyone I know to move to a different network ? And what if they are parts of other groups ?
There are already many social networks, like LinkedIn, so FB isn’t really a monopoly now is it ? And what happens is that people join several social networks so they can connect with everyone they want / need to connect with. The limiting factor becomes how much time people have to get force-fed ads by all the networks they are on. Try learning about an industry before you go for the knee-jerk “break up the monopoly” reaction. This ain’t the 20th century anymore, buddy.
Blaming it on Social Media is all fine and well but people have to take responsibility for what they believe. Act like the adults you think you are.
Sorry Joe, but your understanding of how Facebook works, and the reasons that AT&T was broken up are unenlightened and just plain wrong. Furthermore, by spreading this misinformation on Morning Joe, you are precisely guilty of what you accuse Facebook of. Stick to politics, because your knowledge of technology and why/how they work and are managed is half-assed.
Leave Facebook thinking Instagram is safe, leaving Instagram thinking whatsapp is safe, in the end they are all owned by Facebook. Which sucks really really bad
BREAK UP FACEBOOK NOW !!!!!
Got rid of mine a couple years ago.. Left and right it was nothing but freaking misinformation more and more and nothing happened.. Never used IG and Twitter I’m on maybe twice a week for 10mins or so.. Trust me, I do not miss it.. Someone wants me, they can always text me..
I’m not defending Fb. I deleted my account years ago. But let’s talk about APPLE’s business practices: exploits Chinese sweatshop labor to make iPhones that are grossly overpriced, iPhones that have changed very little since Steve Jobs passed. Apple pays almost no corporate taxes despite making billions of dollars by exploiting loopholes in the tax code. And they use predatory practices to prevent their products from being repaired by not allowing any businesses to obtain schematics or parts for their products. Tim Cook is clueless about technology. That’s why Apple’s product line hasn’t evolved in 10 years. It’s all superficial changes, and now a focus on subscription services. Tim Cook needs to go!
Facebook and others are dangerous for America.
And now Apple podcasts is donald dumps new hate platform.
Joe may need to tone down his rhetoric, he’s sounding a lot like Tucker Carlson.
0:05 I’m not affiliated with social media nor am I in advertising, but anyone with half a brain could tell you that Facebook is not pushing conspiracy theories onto anyone. Their algorithms, much like this platform’s algorithms, utelize information such as your search history, websites visited, and cookies to bring you closer to your own interests.
Yeah well I criticise Apple’s dongle-based economy and planned obsolescence BS.
When it comes to platforms the type of facebook is one, it is indeed a monopoly because anything that shows signs of becoming competitive has been gobbled up by it. At this point it doesnt look like anyone is even trying anymore to compete. This is also true for other platforms dominated by one tech company. There is no alternative to coming down on them with anti-trust laws if we want to tone down the unmitigated perpetuation of the spread of lies and disinformation based on commercial interest. And I’m curious if Joe Biden is willing to tackle this and lead the charge.
… live and learn
Facebook made my kind and gentle uncle into a crazy racist. It’s just disgusting.
Absolutely true..FB..and Zuckerbergs GREED played a Huge part is spreading misinformation and right wing propaganda He has more blood on his hands than probably anyone!!
It’s not just Facebook. Sinclair broadcasting, Fox, NewsMax, and OAN are still today spreading Republican lies and propaganda. There needs to be regulations on all these propaganda news networks.
Saw it coming! Left Fb 8 years ago!
K rgs A/Sweden
Does Tim Cook even have room to talk about another company given the child labor he knew about?
how do you break up a public forum, boomer? Facebook didn’t spread the lie, Trump did. The answer is simple, Presidents, senators and govs must testify under oath every, say, quarter. A bipartisan solution that people could unite over. Lying has always been the problem, long before trump, its why ppl stopped voting. lying became synonymous with politics. Along comes social media and Trump, Hawley, Green, and Cruz amongst others are using it to spread seditious lies, big surprise.
Eh… I get kicked off FB all the time for stupid little violations of their politeness standards.
For 10 years FB ran without any curbing of speech, but now even innocuous little quips earn a 30 day ban.
The ongoing investigation into the Capitol seige is turning up major evidence on the perps that would not be readily available if the radicals has used letters and phone calls, so Social Media is a double bladed sword. Congress impeached Trump recently based on video evidence, spread thru the net.
Now that he is banned he is floundering.
FB is where I post pictures of my cat or some goofy joke I want to show my friends and family, not a place where I get my news. Also, never post anything you wouldn’t want your mother or boss to see. At the same time, FB and others are making the FBI’s job easier since people plan their crime as if only their group can see. it.
The damage wrought by the business practices of big social media companies is huge, with impacts on social cohesion, health and the very functioning of our democracies. The book Zucked by Roger McNamee helped me understand how it happens. And its not that the social media companies set out to do it, but their aim is to keep you on their platforms as long as possible (to maximize their ad revenue) and their algorithms learn which of our buttons to press to achieve that aim. Their algorithms don’t care what the damaging side effects are, the one and only measure of success is time spent on their platform. We end up with individual filter bubbles/echo chambers which are then driven to more extreme positions by bad actors who game the same algorithms. The end result is that people believe “facts” they see on social media which cannot be verified in the real world.
